Software aids residential gateway
Texas Instruments and Ashley Laurent have developed additional software options for manufacturers to differentiate their DSL-based residential gateway products.
Texas Instruments and Ashley Laurent, a leading provider of network enabled embedded software solutions, have developed additional software options for manufacturers to differentiate their DSL-based residential gateway (RG) products Customers have the option of leveraging AL's full Broadway ISS 2.1 software solution which the company is porting to TI's AR7 platform or of supplementing their existing TI software suite with additional features from AL including content filtering, security and virus protection
Broadway ISS 2.1 software includes many new business-class features such as multicast routing over virtual private network (VPN) tunnels, DiffServ based quality of service (QoS), and advanced content protection for worms, viruses and spyware.
Customers using the software can also leverage updates for DSLHome.
Furthermore, the software features content filtering that improves business productivity such as real-time blocking of websites, spyware, worms and viruses.
"Our relationship with AL is a value-add to customer's using TI's DSL-based RG platforms, providing them with additional best-in-class software features such as secure telecommuter support, compatibility and performance optimization for gaming applications and comprehensive support for the DSLHome initiative", said Ben Sheppard, Director of Partnership Programmes for TI's Residential Gateway and Embedded Systems group.
"This latest agreement is further evidence of TI's commitment to get customers to market fast with innovative gateway products".
"We are pleased to have been included in TI's third party partner programme for DSL-related products.
TI is a leader in this market, and their open platform provides manufacturers with greater flexibility for software offerings and a third party network to enable professional services.
Customers will benefit from these options through improved product differentiation and reduced time to market in their gateway offerings", said Jeffrey Goodwin, CEO of Ashley Laurent.
"AL is proud of its existing track record in successfully bringing similar products to market on TI's cable modem platforms.
We are fully embracing this new initiative to port Broadway ISS 2.1 software to TI's industry-leading AR7 platform.
TI's RG designs are based on the AR7 modem-on-chip that is widely adopted by leading manufacturers.
Its designs include common hardware and software architectures that integrate key technologies from TI's comprehensive broadband portfolio, including wireless LAN (WLAN) and voice over IP (VoIP).
The AR7W router integrates TI's IEEE802.11b/g solution and the AR7VW voice gateway provides VoIP over DSL.
In addition, the AR7VWi gateway combines DSL, 802.11 b/g wireless home networking and VoIP into a single platform.
These ADSL2+ RG solutions allow manufacturers to develop cost-optimised, differentiated gateways that are operator quality and deployment ready due to extensive interoperability testing.
