Nominations are now open for the RFID Breakthrough Awards 2006, which will be presented at a gala dinner evening on 8th November 2006 at the Banqueting House, Whitehall

Following the success of the RFID Breakthrough Awards 2005, where over 30 nominations were received, the 2006 awards will reward the success of companies from around the world who are using radio frequency identification technology, whether they be involved in an initial pilot or a full RFID rollout.

Nominations this year can be made in an initial seven categories including the Best Pilot Award, with last year's winner being Marks and Spencer, and the Integration Award, won last year by Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Other categories include awards for business impact, ROI, implementation and RFID Visionary.

The RFID Breakthrough Awards 2006 will be decided on by a prestigious judging panel featuring David Lyon (Business Manager, GS1UK), Neco Can (Vice President, Attevo), Ivano Ortis (Progamme Manager, IDC), Chris Rezendes (Vice President, Venture Development Corporation), Nigel Montgomery (European Research Director, AMR Research), Dr Peter Harrop (Chairman IDTechEx) and Ed Cowley (Director, RFID Centre).

Talking of the Metro 2005 Award win Dr Gerd Wolfram (Managing Director, MG1 Metro Group, Information Technology, 2005 Visionary Award Winner and 2006 judging panel member) said: 'Winning an RFID Breakthrough Award was the validation of our commitment to introducing this key technology'.

Nominations are now being welcomed from either RFID vendors or RFID end users, and can be made online.

All nominations must be received by the closing date of 29th September 2006.

The RFID Breakthrough Awards 2006 will be held in conjunction with the 7th RFID Networking Forum, Europe's largest end-user RFID event, which will be taking place on 9th November 2006 at the Olympia 2 Conference Centre in London.
