Comms processor integrates Wi-Fi IP
Wireless LAN IP is well suited to address the upcoming wireless convergence market thanks to its low power consumption, robustness and completeness of features.
Asocs has licensed Wipro-NewLogic's WiLD 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN MAC IP and integrated it into the Wi-Fi software module of its single-chip MultiComms processor This unique effort results in affordability and mass penetration of wireless convergence solutions due to its low BOM cost and very low power consumption
With proliferation of multiple wireless technologies supporting different networks (PAN, LAN, WAN and MAN) and applications (data transfer, voice, video), convergence of wireless solutions in handheld devices is an inevitable phenomenon.
There can be various approaches to drive this convergence but the key is to deliver a low cost, low power, low die-sise solution which will be able to scale for multiple current and future protocols.
Asocs MP100 MultiComms processor offers high-performance software reconfigurable modems, low latency air-interface switching, and minimal power consumption - enabling user-transparent access to the Internet.
Wipro-NewLogic augments the offering of wireless solutions with its complementary and proven portfolio of wireless technologies in wireless LAN, Bluetooth, and UWB/Wireless USB domains.
"The proven, stable Wi-Fi technology from Wipro-NewLogic gives our customers a very quick time to market with MP100 MultiComms processor-based handsets and handhelds".
"Our customers expect a robust wireless LAN.
We found all these qualities in Wipro-NewLogic and their WiLD MAC offering", said Tom Yemington, Asocs VP of Business Development.
"Wipro-NewLogic's world-class platform implementation support further complements Asocs silicon and modem design capability enabling users to enjoy, for the first time, a true mobile internet without manually optimising performance, connection-cost, and power consumption".
"We are delighted to enable wireless convergence in Asocs' innovative MP100 MultiComms processor solutions and proud to be a partner of this innovative company", says Senthil Murugesan, CEO of Wipro-NewLogic.
"Our wireless LAN IP is well suited to address the upcoming wireless convergence market due to its low power consumption, robustness and completeness of features".
"We are seeing integration of our wireless IPs happening with multimode processors like that of Asocs' as well as with WiMAX, GPS and other complementary wireless protocols".
The Asocs MP100 MultiComms processor introduces a revolutionary approach to wireless communication - a single IP-based platform offering high-performance, software reconfigurable modems, low latency air-interface switching, and minimal power consumption - enabling user-transparent access to the internet.
Asocs is currently sampling the MP100 processor to select customers.
