Study to aid
UK semiconductor manufacturing
The NMI has begun a benchmarking study for its semiconductor manufacturing members in the specialist areas of production equipment engineering, purchasing, human resources, training and development
The UK's National Microelectronics Institute has initiated a benchmarking study for its semiconductor manufacturing members within the specialist areas of production equipment engineering, purchasing, human resources, training and development. The purpose of the study is to help member companies improve their operational activities by benchmarking against industry best practice.
The initiative complements the extensive industry network and capability mapping that is central to NMI's mission of building a community across the microelectronics industry supply chain in the UK and Ireland.
NMI's Productivity Consultant David Law said: 'It is crucial for all manufacturing companies to continually improve operational efficiencies and is especially true for semiconductor manufacturers competing at a global level'.
'The UK still boasts a strong semiconductor manufacturing base with specific competencies in power management and analogue applications'.
'This initiative is designed to support that activity and upgrade the indigenous manufacturing capability that resides here'.
Acknowledging the motivation behind the network, Derek Boyd, NMI's CEO went on to say: 'A primary aim of many of the NMI's initiatives is to encourage member companies to work together in noncompetitive areas and benefit from collaborative learning and knowledge exchanges'.
'This philosophy is a common theme across all our activities for semiconductor design and manufacturing members'.
This initiative is ongoing with a vision to develop key manufacturing performance metrics; interested parties should contact David Law at the NMI for further details.
