Secure Digital High-Capacity memory card line expands with larger capacities and new speed grades

Kingston Technology has expanded its Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) memory card line, with the introduction of three new 8Gbyte cards available in Class 2, 4 and 6 speed ratings. In response to growing consumer demand two new 4Gbyte SDHC cards in Class 4 and 6 speeds have also been launched to enable users to maximise the performance of higher resolution imaging devices such as digital cameras, camcorders, PDAs and MP3 players.

Jim Selby, Product Marketing Manager EMEA, Kingston Technology comments: 'Today's higher resolution image devices require larger memory card capacities and faster sustained data transfer rates (DTR) to maximise overall performance'.

Selby continues: 'Our new 8Gbyte SDHC cards, as well as the 4Gbyte Class 4 and 6 cards, are designed to satisfy the growing demand of consumers wanting to get the most out of their advanced digital devices'.

The new SDHC format surpasses capacities beyond the original 2Gbyte threshold for the Secure Digital (SD) card format.

Offered in three different speed classes (2, 4 and 6), each SDHC class designation reflects the minimum sustained DTR in megabytes per second.

For example, a Class 2 SDHC card has a minimum DTR of 2Mbyte/s, whereas a Class 6 SDHC card has a minimum DTR of 6Mbyte/s.

The higher capacities and speeds of the SDHC format optimises SDHC-compatible devices running MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and other high quality video compression used by consumer in HD and DVD video.
