Claymate, the UK's leading brand of trap controllers for clay pigeon shooting, has reduced costs by more than GBP 8 per controller by using Deltron's die cast aluminium box-customisation service.

Since switching to the one-stop solution, Claymate has been able to cut manufacturing times, reduce risk and free-up management time.

Previously, Claymate was buying standard die cast aluminium enclosures from Deltron Emcon and having them machined and finished using a series of local suppliers.

Each process required the batch to be delivered to, and collected from, a separate workshop, with all the usual associated planning and paperwork.

Now, the entire process is completed in one step by Deltron Emcon at its Scuthorpe site.

The boxes are simply delivered to Claymate machined, finished and ready for final assembly.

"It is simpler, quicker and cheaper", explains Rick Fornalski the proprietor of BLN Technical Services, the company that owns the Claymate brand.

"We have been able to replace a fiddly, multi-supplier process with a one-stop service".

"The direct cost is GBP 8 per box less than it was before, but the actual savings in management time and effort are considerably more than that".

Claymate is a robust product designed to withstand the rigours of an all-weather outdoor environment.

Preparation of the box requires machining of 13 differently sised holes in the box and lid for the control panel, sounder, connectors, cable glands and mounting screws.

The mounting holes are tapped and plugged before etching and powder coating in the company's trademark bright orange paint.

A high quality finish is essential to protect the box, and its contents, from corrosion.

Claymate was one of the first customers to use the new Deltron Emcon box customisation service.

Rick Fornalski says: "We worked closely with Deltron in the early stages to ensure they understood exactly what our quality and traceability requirements were".

"There were some issues along the way, but these have all been resolved thanks to a high level of customer service from Deltron, and a commitment to the relationship on both sides".

"The final result is well worth the work".

Claymate sells about 300 units per year in UK and USA.

All its enclosures are supplied by Deltron Emcon, which now keeps a buffer stock to ensure quick delivery on demand.

This is not only much quicker, but it means that the risk factor is reduced too; Claymate is no longer at the mercy of the possibility of problems at, or between, four different sites.

The process is much more robust and reliable.
