Convertors cram 50W into
an eighth of a brick
Novel technologies for high-efficiency operation and excellent thermal performance have been combined to create the world's smallest 50W, single-output DC/DC convertors
C and D Technologies has used its proprietary technologies for high-efficiency operation and excellent thermal performance to create the world's smallest 50W, single-output DC/DC convertors. Supplied in an industry standard eighth brick format measuring just 58.42 x 22.86 x 9.0mm, convertors in the new WPA50 series are ideal for high-density distributed power architectures (DPAs) in telecommunications, industrial and datacommunications applications.
In addition to their small size, WPA50 DC/DC convertors help designers to make additional space savings through high levels of integrated control and protection functionality and the ability to operate at temperatures up to 100C without a heatsink.
The WPA50 DC/DC convertors can accommodate a wide input voltage range of between 36 and 75V DC and are available with output voltages of 1.5, 1.8, 2.2, 2.5, 3.3 and 5.0V.
No minimum load is required.
Each device features an isolation voltage rating of 1500V DC and is undergoing approval to the basic insulation safety requirements of UL60950/EN60950.
Offering high levels of onboard functionality, the WPA50 50W convertors provide output trim and remote output sense as well as a remote on/off capability that allows the device to be turned on and off using either negative or positive logic signals.
In addition, thermal shutdown and protection against output overvoltage and overcurrent conditions are standard.
WPA50 DC/DC convertors operate with a fixed switching frequency of 400kHz and meet CISPR22/EN55022/FCC15J Class B specifications for EMI levels with external filtering.
Efficiency levels are as high as 91%, while typical ripple and noise on the output is specified as 75mV (peak-peak).
Operating temperatures for the new convertors range from -40 to +100C and MTTF for all the devices in the range is 1Mh.
