Offering full UL1950 recognition to operational level, the world's smallest isolated 10W DC/DC convertors suit space-constrained distributed power architectures in telecommunications and industrial applications where approved levels of isolation are a mandatory design requirement. Devices in the Newport Components NPH10S series combine industry-standard pin-outs with dimensions of just 32 x 25 x 10mm (1.26 x 0.98 x 0.39in). The convertors allow for further space savings by delivering their fully rated output at temperatures up to 72C without a heatsink.
All of the devices have a single output and a wide, 2:1 voltage input range.
Input/output isolation is 1.5kV.
Featuring efficiency levels of up to 87%, the NPH10S family can be supplied with nominal input voltages of either 24 or 48V.
Single-ended outputs of 3.3, 5, 12 or 15V are available for each input voltage option.
Outputs are fully regulated over the full load range and all devices will operate to zero load.
Newport's NPH10S convertors have surge ratings to 12W and feature built-in overtemperature protection, protection against load faults and basic filtering as standard.
The industry-standard pinout can be augmented with the 'no cost' option of two additional pins, providing access to additional features that are not commonly available on devices at this power rating.
The output adjust pin, for instance, allows fine tuning trimming of the output voltage, while the multifunction synchronisation pin can be used to facilitate remote shutdown or to eliminate the noise problems that can occur as a result of beat frequencies when converters are connected in parallel.
Supplied in UL 94V-0-rated packaging, the NPH10S convertors use a copper case that provides both efficient heat transfer and effective EMI shielding.
The devices are designed for high-reliability operation at case temperatures from -40 to +110C and have an internal construction that does not use electrolytic capacitors.
Unit pricing for the NPH10S series is US$25 for quantities in excess of 1000.
